For those who had been following along in this thread and noticed how my question to silentknight abruptly caused the dialogue to cease...we had taken the discussion off-line to determine the next step(s).
As noted in those last few posts, the content of the message may not have considered the various backgrounds we all have. With the understanding of various backgrounds, upbringings, teachings, experiences, history and so on we (all) realize that some of the dialogue may cause some confusion.
1Cor 13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
None of us have perfect understanding of God. Our theologies are flawed, all of us. However we glean from each other with open hearts and minds with the goal of drawing closer to Him. It is the desire ofmany most to not make mistakes in their pursuit of the Lord for our lives, so we rely on our understanding of scripture, council from others, "balance" (or discernment), but God never says it wrong to make a mistake. He forgives us for doing so especially when our desire is His character.
Please consider two examples for comparison...In one previous post I mention "praying for someone in a wheelchair to walk". Did I hear God tell me or was that just me? I ponder "If I pray for that person and nothing happens I made God look bad", so instead I just do nothing = lukewarm. (Whether or not God is speaking or not is not the point I'm trying to make with this analogy.) The other example is stealing a loaf of bread or in more extreme circumstances causing someone else bodily harm...Compare the two examples as to what we hear from God. Which one is in line with God's character and an acceptable mistake to make?
There is a lot in this thread to chew on. Again as we are all in various places with our walk with Christ, it would not be likely that a new disciple be able realize when God was speaking, although part of the point of this thread is that we are not to tell God how to act
With that I would like to ask @silentknight to continue with the thread. There is always room for questions, concerns or objections as none have a complete corner on the Word!
