I also thought the dialogue was clever when Jesus asks Matthew for feedback. Matthew argues that the message in the Sermon on the Mount would mean everyone would be condemned. Jesus seemingly concurs. Amen! That's the point to lead us to grace.

We just finished the Sermon on the Mount at church. As we were going through it, my thought was - here is God in the flesh explaining the purpose of the Law He gave them (and how it was being misused), and also that they cannot follow that Law without Him. My pastor saying that the Sermon explains what citizens of the Kingdom should look like totally went with what the show said about the beginning being a map. Look for people like that. But also, live like people like that! This series has gotten me thinking about so many things.

Exactly right. The people that actually get grace and get it can't be earned, maintained, improved upon, end up being the most merciful, compassionate, and practically holy people I know. We know we can't measure up to the standard set in the Sermon on the Mount, but because of the revelation of the gospel of grace, we long to be those people. Transformation from the inside out.
