Hi all, After 3 months of my job as church secretary at my church, I have been entrusted to select the scripture memory verse for the congregation for the month of August. As much as I'd like to use Rev 12:1, I don't feel that is the best choice to go forward with. I don't want to upset anyone with my choice and my pastor is actually on vacation, so I don't really have anyone vetoing my choice. Any thoughts on a good scripture that gets people thinking more about the end times, rather than just some kind of "feel good" scripture? I have been speaking with a few friends from the congregation about sign/end times, but haven't approached the majority of the 90 or so attendees with the topic. I'd appreciate any input any of you may have as I need to make up the leaflet inserts for the bulletin tomorrow morning as I'm busy the rest of the weekend prior to Sunday morning. (I'm busy Sunday morning too -lol- attending church 😁) Thanks 🙂

Don't know if you need just a single verse or can use a passage, but my suggestions would be either John 14:1-3 or 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18. Either one of those should get folks thinking a bit... "Repent ye brood of vipers," probably is not the one for you.

I think John 14:1-3 is a good one. Not only to be thinking about end times and His soon return, but also that we have a better place that we are headed for, this is not our home.

Thanks, I really appreciate the input. 😀 On a side note, I was texting my non-Christian friend about the task I had to do. She sees all my Facebook posts (including my testimony), knows where I work and has listened to me talk about my Job before. She asked me what the purpose of a scripture memory verse was. I am happy to share my faith and hopefully someday soon she will be willing to hear more.

How about the verse at the bottom of my posts (my signature line)?

I watched our brother Jaco Prinsloo (sp?) last night and was amazed by his testimony and the knowledge God has given this young man! Long story short, the verse that struck me the most (if you saw my face and the light bulb over my head, it would make sense) was Isaiah 46:9-10 "9 Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure';"
The Lord showed us the END at the beginning...Genesis 3:15-16 "15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel." 16 To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you."
Somewhere on this site is a comparison of Stellarium from 8/5/3914 BC which is a foreshadow of the REV12 sign. He showed us the beginning from the end and the end from the beginning.
IDK Maybe this wont work for your verse (Isaiah 46:10) but it sure got me thinking

I'd second John 14:1-3. It's a very clear promise that Jesus is going to take us out to be with Him. 1 Thess 5:4 might also be good!

The scripture reading has gone well. I don't know how many people have it memorized, but hopefully they became pretty familiar with the passage after four weeks (if they attended all four Sundays). I also put a scripture memory verse print-out sheet in each families mailbox, for those who didn't attend regularly in August.
As this is my thread originally, I am going to hijack it now.
I went to bed late this evening after an afternoon of four hours on the lawnmower. I was sleeping pretty well until a dream that I just woke up from. With my job at the church, I have remarked in the past that I've seen more funerals taking place in my Church building, which has been great in allowing people to hear God's message of salvation at least one more time (what I feel) before the rapture (that I feel is coming). Prior to this dream, I was happily believing that my Oma (Grandmother) would live to see the rapture. She turns 83 next month. After this dream, I am not certain of that anymore.
I dream a lot and most of it is just mundane, without much significance to it. I was in the midst of a mundane dream when the focus changed. The following is my dream:
I was at a local ski hill (I haven't been there in years) and my cousin and his mom were there. While we were talking about his brother who wasn't there, his mom received a phone call (presumably from her brother-in-law, my uncle) informing her that my Oma had passed away.
It was late at night, and as they weren't really trying to inform anyone, I took it upon myself to phone my Great Tante (Aunt), my Oma's sister-in-law who lives in the city because she would want to know right away. Except for I don't have her number in my phone. Finally at 11:30ish, I was able to get though on the phone and let her know Oma had passed. She was a little blunt, as she is and told me a couple of things and I told her I would ring her a DVD of the funeral if she was unable to get someone in her busy family to bring her to see the funeral. My dream ended with the end of the phone call.
Lying in bed afterwards, I came to the realization that I was pretty naive to think that my Oma won't pass on, because in all reality, when the rapture happens, the Dead in Christ shall rise first. What a powerful witness it would be to see my Oma rise up before me. I also was thinking about how God has been allowing these funerals to happen to invite the fallen into a relationship with him before it is too late. It really isn't out of line to have my Oma pass on and hopefully spark a return to Christ in my extended family.
So after these thoughts, I thought about how powerful my Oma's eulogy would be if it was delivered by someone in the faith. I am the only Grandchild that regularly attends church. My mother and her three brothers sometimes profess to be Christians, but I never see the fruit of that. My siblings and my cousins may have been raised in the church, but like most Millennials, they have struck out on their own path.
I feel this dream could possibly be a "get prepared" dream. If I was to be unprepared prior to my Oma passing, I would be quite sad and the family wouldn't be able to see the fruits of the spirit in me because I really wouldn't want to be a part of the planning as they (the children) don't get along. What I see from this dream is that God wants me to be a part of this event. He wants me to play a large role, making sure my family knows about my Oma's strong faith and how that has been a huge influence in my own personal spiritual journey.
If I do get the possibility of having time to prep for this (only time will tell). I will have to find out more about my Oma's walk with Christ. If not, I will find out this morning if I need to be an ambassador of Christ to my family.
Please pray for me as I think it is going to be a sleepless night now.
