I don't really know much about volcanoes. Are fissures a good thing in general or are they a bad sign? Do they allow pressure to be released or are they something that happen before a major eruption?
From what I understand, it's actually a bad thing. While it may seem that the fissures are relieving pressure (and they are), the problem is that lava is draining out of the main volcano down under the surrounding land. The fissures are just indicating that pressure is building. As the lava level drops, large chunks of rock inside the cone are breaking off the outer rim and they can can block up the cone. Lava heats the ground water creating steam and the pressure builds up and the blockage results in an eruption hurling those giant rocks into the air. What goes up must come down. Some rocks can be as large as a refrigerator and weigh 10,000 lbs. You don't ant to be anywhere near this thing if that happens.
Also, in this case, the fissures seem to be slicing through the east edge of the island. Kind of like a tear parallel to the coastline. At some point, the far east edge may just break off, fall into the ocean and create an enormous tsunami. I heard it has the potential to create a wave 1000 feet high. Yowza.
Just learning this stuff myself and this is what I think I have gleaned from the experts.
Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” John 6:29
Just a personal and anecdotal observation...there was a big uptick in earthquakes in Hawaii today compared to the last few days when the frequency was slowing. Not much about it in the news, but this is still a very serious event.
Edit: 100 EQ's in Hawaii in the past 24 hours @ 2:30 ET 5/25. That's a serious increase over a couple days ago.
EnochWalked: Bernie, Mike: Good points about "deception" and cheating death. Bora: Interestingly, the word used in the Greek (plēgē) is translated "plague" elsewhere in Revelation. The fact that Covid tests swab inside the head does make me think of that "plague".
