That article made my hair stand up on my head, watchmanjim! The arrogance of man's imaginations is frightening.

Near as I can tell (mainly cause data is sketchy at best) – The bible records this just before the Flood
Genesis 6: 3 Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”
After the Flood Life-Spans dramatically decreased (no Hard data was found for the “Common Man” – However, those who had money/power (call them Elite) had higher Life-Spans) A few like Abraham and Jacob got up close to 200 (think 176 and 147) – but most everyone else was under 100

Even today, with all medical advances and life advances -- it is rare for a person to reach 100

Psalm 90:10: “The length of our days is seventy years—or eighty, if we have the strength.”
Whomever wrote this psalm seems to be very close to calling the average lifespan ….. As the above Stats show -- Mid-60’s appear to be the norm for most “the ages”

Good data, kjs. The lifespan clearly decreased rapidly between Noah and Abraham, and then slowly settled lower from Abraham onward.

All the articles claiming the goal is longer life spans are failing to disclose one of the biggest assumptions being made here. Not Just the AGE being longer – but the quality of Life being at least the Same if not Better.
For example take a look at all the commercials that have come out recently. Promising a more muscular toned body, functioning as those in their thirties – BY simply buying their product and following their routine.
Almost no one would say they would love to life to 200 years in age – if they could not being living and doing things as they were doing in their 30’s.
I actually felt sorry for my Great-Grandmother who lived into her mid-90s. She became blind during her 50/60s and became dependent on others at that point. By 80; while she could still walk – it was no more than a shuffle – shortly after that she lost more and more ability to do anything without assistance; like going the bathroom, eating, drinking…..

I agree kjs, who would want to live forever in a body that continuously degrades? My mother in law is in her 80's and is really slowing down. She is much more able bodied than many of her peers, still living independently, though with more and more difficulty. She always says how she is ready to go home to be with Jesus, how she tires of daily pain, and fatigue, and she is also having trouble with her memory, which frustrates her. That is the problem with the world when they don't believe in God and eternal life; they want to live forever in this life, not me....I am looking forward to the redemption of my body!!!

I too am looking forward to a time when I no longer have a flesh nature that seems to delight in straying from God. A time when I can fully worship and be thankful for the Lamb of God, who rescued me!
