I find it appallingly sad that we have stayed so far so fast regarding the gender differences of male and female. Today is was announced that the Doctor (A show I used to watch- my husband still does- but for how long?) will now be a women. www.thestar.com/entertainment/2017/07/16/british-actress-jodie-whittaker-to-be-the-first-female-star-of-doctor-who.htmlWhat I find completely sad is on posts on Facebook about this you are no longer allowed to have an opinion to disagree with this change. It is not okay to want to be respectful of gender differences. My kids used to watch some of the show a few seasons back with us. I can no longer let them watch any newer seasons or and seasons to come because the conversations I would have to have afterwards would take way more time than it's worth to discuss- I am finding it harder and harder to find any programming to watch as it is too busy trying to program us or desensitize us. Any good suggestions or links on maintaining the integrity of gender with my children would be greatly appreciated.

I am finding it harder and harder to find any programming to watch as it is too busy trying to program us or desensitize us. That is so true, sawdy! Perhaps there are other pastimes that you and your family can begin to enjoy together. It might seem daunting at first to pull family members away from the television set, but perhaps little by little you can encourage other activities for your children and even your husband. Perhaps you can enjoy reading some really good books together or working on a project together. There are so many moments for teaching kids that can be had with simply taking a walk together or planting seeds in a garden or making a cake together or taking a look at the stars at night and learning to identify them.

I'm up in the air on this subject.....
There is a group of people known as intersex... Which is the broad name for those individuals who are born neither male nor female. The case range from children born with both sex organs, no sex organs, and a mixture of sex organs. Statistically the number is 1 in 1000 births .... So just in the USA puts around 1000 people per year have the condition....
These people and their families are so traumatized by it, most do not willingly share their stories.
The person I know who has this condition was raised male, even though he has both male and female organs.....
My point is unless you know the full story, do not judge..... Most of these people are assigned a sex based on the parents and doctors input, without any input by the individual. I can definitely see how someone who was assigned a sex, feels the need to change later in life.
Before arguing the point with me, go check out a medical website which describes these conditions.
Honestly, when I first found out about this from my friend it threw my faith in a tailspin....
Cause I was raised God created them Male and Female ..... Turns out out there is another category as well and most people are too upset about it to talk about.

kjs, that is a good point. The intersex phenomenon (naturally, biologically speaking) is, I believe an unfortunate result of the fall. The people who find themselves in this position are indeed in a difficult and unfortunate position. Whenever we meet somebody who seems to have sexual identity issues, etc., we should not attack them for it. There are many possible explanations for what we observe in others. Like you say, we should be very cautious not to jump to conclusions that the person is a homosexual, transgender, psychologically abnormal, or whatever. These people have souls, too, and they need Jesus just like everyone else. In fact, they are not to be blamed for being confused and frustrated about the situation, and that may come out in ways that are uncomfortable for us. This is one more example of why we should cut everybody a little slack until we better understand them. Our God wants us to be kind and understanding to all His humans.

That is how I ended up resolving the matter in my mind and with my faith.
The "Fall" so screwed up our entire species- even something so supposedly common as Gender - no longer appear to be one or the other.
Without God's intervention by eventually starting over ... I can imagine our human DNA continue to degrade to such a point that we would eventually not be "human".
That is one area I could never understand about those who claim evolution is the way humans came about.... All around us we see examples of things degrading.... Like buildings, bridges, roadways .... And yes even our own bodies....
how in the world, do they expect each generation would improve is beyond my comprehension.
It is also why I try to view all angles of an point (though I am not always successful).... Because the more I live, the more I discover things are not all such cut and dry as the way I was raised.

Sawdy, for boys, I recommend reading or listening to the various works of G.A.Henty. This author wrote many historical-based adventure books for boys, detailing the lives of ancient and more recent historical figures, usually through the viewpoint of a young man living in these various times. Time periods range from the late 1800's (When Henty was writing) back to ancient Egypt, with a lot written about 1800's and 1700's wars, as well as medieval times. The one thing to watch for in some of these books is a certain degree of racism, which was unfortunately a background factor in the times in which Henty lived, and very hard to get away from in those days. However, I have read books by a number of authors from that time period, and Henty is not more racist than most of that time. If anything, he is In his Civil War book "With Lee in Virginia" he is very sympathetic to the lot of the slaves, and his protagonist helps an oppressed slave to escape from his master. We have three of his dramatized audio books on CD, they are great to listen to, and have a good Christian lesson to them. The books are great for kids to realize just what tough things children and teens (a term not used in Victorian times and earlier) used to do-- going to sea at a young age, being responsible for chores on a family farm, going off to war, running dispatch for generals, etc. Manly deeds and chivalrous treatment of women are found in practically every chapter, as well as tough moral decisions which the characters must work through. A few of his books have female main characters, though I have never read one of those. There are other good books out there for both boys and girls-- go to homeschooling websites for more recommendations. If you get the books (search online) they are easy to read--I suggest reading to your children one chapter of the Bible and one chapter of a book, such as Henty, or other authors, before bed.

My general take on the current transgender movement is that it has effectively severed itself from the original goal of protecting genuine intersex persons from discrimination. The real political issue now is that a much greater percentage of people than just those who have an actual biological genital deformity, are wanting to have the freedom to change their gender based on how they feel rather than biological reality. A growing number of doctors, including from Johns Hopkins are calling the new transgender movement utterly mad. The movement has basically legitimized an actual psychological disorder (gender dysphoria). Parents are allowing young children to have sex change operations and take hormone supplements based on a passing stage. I've seen statistics showing that 90+ percent of children with gender dysphoria will grow out of it, yet crazy parents are letting their children receive permanent, life-altering procedures that they will later regret and cause them to become statistically more likely to commit suicide. It's sick and horrific.
God made them male and female. It is a biological, factual, scientific reality. The Fall introduced all kinds of turmoil. People that are genuinely intersex we need to love and care for, and share with them God's love. On the other hand, when it comes to people with gender dysphoria, we need to love them, but call a spade a spade. A person who is biologically male, but wants to be called a woman, is not a woman.
The culture is rapidly moving towards eliminating gender norms, especially the biblical binary gender system, and that means that Believers who place God first will come face to face with choices that will cost them.
As for me, I will not refer to a biological male as a "she" nor will I refer to a biological female as a "he". Caitlyn Jenner will forever be a male and I will call him a male - not out of any sort of hatred or spite, but for two reasons: 1. It's common sense and biblical truth and I'm called to honor God's commands, and 2. It's the best way to love Mr. Jenner. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. Love is not mere acceptance or toleration. Love is genuine care. Love seeks to save and lead to safety. Love seeks to restore, heal, and reconcile.
Just my 2 cents.

Isn't it interesting to think about that ever since the gay marriage ruling in 2014 the entire human population has degraded rapidly. It started with marriage rights, and then changed to discrimination against anyone against it, and then went about changing genders, and now anyone against or unsupporting is condemned.
Isn't this miracoulsly leading the people of the earth to even more hatred. I believe the stage is set to build so much hatred for the antichrists arrival. The antichrist might be a good deceiver but the people of the earth would have already had to be completely deceived for him to gain power so effortlessly.
If this hatred and twisted thinking of the population continues on the path that it is, then it becomes so easy to believe that the time of the romans will be upon us. Think about it we read about the tribulation and we research it thoroughly, but for everything in it to happen the minds of the people need to be a certain way. Otherwise it would not make sense that the entire world is okay with beheading Christians in the millions and broadcasting it with their children watching. The world needs to be in such a bad state that they are cheering for the deaths of the two witnesses and leaving them for dead to rot on the streets.
In reality this entire church age is but a circle. It starts with intense persecution and death for believers and also a huge revival, it would only make sense that at the end the persecution would mirror or even surpass the original.

I have had many conversations regarding this topic and a couple others that are of a high profile in today's culture. Living about half hour outside of Manhattan my entire life, this area of NJ is highly influenced by pop-culture & social trends right out of the gate. Not saying other areas aren't, but I tend to think the east and left coast see this sooner (and sometimes more extreme) than others. In any event I recently saw a news story about a man who reads stories to children (roughly ages 3-7) in a Brooklyn library. The beginning of the clip shows an overweight, sloppily dressed (in shorts & white t-shirt) & unshaven man (maybe 5-7 of facial hair) beginning to shave, then transform into extremely flamboyant trans(sexual?) preparing for his time at the library to read to children. Deut 22:5 "A woman shall not wear man's clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman's clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God." I watched the rest of the news segment (while my stomach churned) where this person read stories about transexuals and transgender people, then to see the parents of these children say "what a great thing this person was doing by sharing about other peoples lives and exposing their children to alternative lifestyles"
I wanted to point out this story i viewed in light of Sawdy's original post and some of the responses here. I do think that no matter what we do or say (as Christians) this will continue to pervade our society and culture through all variety of media. I believe that is pretty clear and unavoidable as the enemy continues to defile God's sacred creation(s) (family, marriage, identity, etc.). However I do recognize there are a small amount of people who are not born "normal". As noted they are either born with both sets of genitals or perhaps none or some variant. While this is important to recognize as these people have legitimate biological concerns which typically come along emotional issues as a result of the aforementioned, I believe it is as equally important to instruct our children not only about those who were born differently, but those who (think they can) choose differently. I am not one believes I should isolate my daughter from the things that are ever present around her. While I do not want to promote it, it is inevitable that it will be presented to her through, media, school, peers or otherwise and therefore she needs to understand what God says and how she can view the situation as it may present itself.
Now its easy for me to say "God created them male & female..." which is how i wouldve handled it 15 yrs ago, but in more recent conversations it is usually, quickly and objectively pointed out to me "what about those born with biological issues"...Which is a very good point but I have more recently replied with "that is for that person to seek the Lord on the topic, rather than you base your worldview on it". That population of people is quite small and the people I have spoken with usually dont have a strong retort to this viewpoint. I often emphasize they need to concern themselves with their own standing with the Lord, rather than concern what medical condition someone else may encounter.
