Repentance vs. Destruction
A Wee Study between the Two Ninevehs (Jonah and Nahum)
Parallels between the U.S.?
In the book of Jonah, we see the city of Nineveh, filled with sin and idolatry, warned by the reluctant prophet Jonah that destruction will come to them unless they repent. A solar eclipse preceded this warning, they listened to Jonah's warnings and repented. God was merciful, particularly taking into account the large numbers of children who dwelled in the city.
Moving to the book of Nahum, some 100 years later (the exact year of destruction are a bit wobbly), Nineveh has again been weighed and found wanting by God. Nahum tells of their utter destruction, through enemies through war (Chapter 2) permitted by God, as well as disasters by storms, floods, drought and the like (Chapter 1). Nahum also describes just why Nineveh has been wiped out in Chapter 3:4-7. Nahum speaks on things which are eerily reflective of 'Mystery Babylon' in Revelation 17.
I found it curious that between the books of Jonah (repentance) and Nahum (destruction) was Micah where our watchman investigators have often cited 5:3 (the sign of Revelation 12.
Just for giggles, I looked up the meaning of the prophets' names: Jonah means 'dove' and Nahum means 'comforter'.
So far this week, we've had a solar eclipse, many earthquakes, not to mention the one in north Texas, the same state which is now reeling from this Cat 4 hurricane.
I have many questions.
Just wanted to get some thoughts down. If any are willing to tease this out for further study, feel free.

Dove and Comforter are both references (at times) to the Holy Spirit.
