It was a very cloudy night. While I was driving home, suddenly two small holes occurred in the overcast, and the moon was in one hole, Jupiter was in the other, with thick cloud in between. This was at 11:37 PM June 30. There it was--and like 2 seconds later both were gone. BAM!
They were only about 5 moon widths apart.

People on the West Coast or Hawaii might still be able to see it now-- the moon is in very close conjunction above Jupiter. It's passed over the horizon here now.

Awesome! My honey's asleep or I'd ask him to escort me outside to take a look! I did earlier observe the moon overhead while we were doing some garden work. I think we came indoors about 9:00 p.m. or just a little earlier than that, as there was still some daylight when we stopped working. Sometime before that I noticed the moon was fairly high in the sky, but couldn't see any stars or planets.

We've had some interesting skies recently where I'm at, too.
I've been watching Leo and Virgo lately. And when I can see all of Leo I see only 9 stars.

I just saw that posted on facebook too and people saying it looked like soldiers. It's probably just distant thunderstorms. My husband is a meteorologist so I could ask him about it, but he just left for work.
