Yea... sorry rt, I completely disagree. 2 Chronicles 5:3 The assembly of the Heads occurred "in the seventh" which is referencing whole of the seventh month. Not just the middle of the month. If you look at the Hebrew underneath you will see it. biblehub.com/hebrew/hashshevii_7637.htmThe 1st Temple assembly follows the same pattern as the 2nd Temple assembly in Ezra 3/Nehemiah 7-8. The assembly of the children ... as one man... (man child) occurred on the first day of the seventh month. And Yes, I've read lots of commentary on this verse being translated as just the Feast of Tabernacles. I still disagree. My first reason for this is the Hebrew word used in 2 Chronicles 5:3: הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י It's the same word in Ezra 3:1 and Nehemiah 7:73. My second and third reasons are 1 Kings 8:65 and 2 Chronicles 7:9. I agree that the Day of Atonement (10th day) and Feast of Tabernacles were kept. But so was the Feast of Trumpets.

Another blatantly obvious point is that they kept the Day of Atonement... the 10th day. They were assembled BEFORE the Feast of Tabernacles...

Another blatantly obvious point is that they kept the Day of Atonement... the 8th day. They were assembled BEFORE the Feast of Tabernacles... That is why I love it here at unsealed great opinions and discussion. I will try to read everything you pointed out. There is so much information here. God Bless.

I'll just leave this here: biblehub.com/commentaries/1_kings/8-65.htmBasically, if you read through the commentaries on 1 Kings 8:65, you see that most agree that there were two separate events. Most likely one event that lasted 7 days before the Day of Atonement alluding to the speech Solomon gave, the trumpet blasts and singing, and the blessing of the people... and then the Feast of Tabernacles for 7 more days. 2 Chronicles 7:9 This would mean the Heads would have been assembled on the 1st day of the Feast of Trumpets! (which makes since IMHO) Then they would have had the feast of the dedication of the Temple for 7 days. They were sent home on the 8th day to prepare for the Sabbath and Day of Atonement. (additional proof they were assembled before the 8th day, that only leaves 7 days...!) Then kept the Day of Atonement on the 10th day. Then the 7 "more" days for the Feast of Tabernacles. Then on the 23rd day they went home. (2 Chronicles 7:9) I can't imagine that it would be easy to slaughter 120 thousand sheep and 22 thousand bulls (each weighing about 2400 lbs) in 7 days...

Whoa !! Listen to what Chuck Missler says about Jeremiah 33:11. He said that this verse is used as the ending of Jewish Wedding ceremonies, even today. Chuck Missler on Jeremiah 33:11I've set the video to start at 10 minuets and 53 seconds.

My other reasons are 1 Kings 8:65 and 2 Chronicles 7:9 I don't disagree that the Day of Atonement (10th day) and Feast of Tabernacles wasn't kept, they were. But so was the Feast of Trumpets. The reason that the commentaries and myself believe it was the feast of tabernacles is because Solomon and the people celebrated the feast for seven days. The feast of trumpets was a one day occurrence. They also had a solemn day of rest on the eighth day after the feast in accordance with the feast of tabernacles. On or in, it doesn't really matter, the 1st of the month wasn't really even called a "feast" in the law. According to the law there were three feasts where the men of Israel were to assemble, Unleavened bread, Weeks, and Tabernacles. The day of trumpets wasn't one of them. What is now called the feast of trumpets was a day of rest, it was considered a Sabbath not a feast. Like the day of Atonement, it is not considered a feast day either. But you are free to disagree.

I see no evidence of the day of atonement being observed in the passage. There are very specific rituals that must take place on the day of atonement and none of those take place here. The passage in Chronicles says that the people were sent home on the 23rd of the month, so if you subtract 15 days (7 days for dedication + 7 days for tabernacles +1 day, the 23rd when they were sent home) you get the 8th of the month. If they began 7 days before the feast of tabernacles it would have begun on the 7th day of the 7th month not on the 1st. If indeed the dedication took place first followed by the feast as is described in 1 Kings. They did not observe the day of Atonement, because the temple wasn't ready yet. The preparation was taking place in that first week when the temple was being dedicated. I do concede that it is possible that the people gathered on the 1st, but that is not said anywhere in the passage. The feast they were gathered to observe is clearly the feast of Tabernacles not trumpets. Not that it really makes a whole lot of difference in the end. I guess we can agree to disagree. And yes 142,000 animals is a lot of slaughtering going on, I would assume all the priests were involved.

Can you please direct me to the passage that shows evidence of this? Leviticus 23:27. They would have been required to follow this and go home. We have Proof that on the 8th day (2 days before the Day of Atonement or the day after the 7th day of Feast of Tabernacles) they went home 1 Kings 8:66 We have Proof that on the 23rd day (7 days after the Feast of Tabernacles) they went home 2 Chronicles 7:10 1 (Feast of Trumpets ) Dedication of Temple Day 1 2 (Feast of Trumpets ) Dedication of Temple Day 2 3 Dedication of Temple Day 3 4 Dedication of Temple Day 4 5 Dedication of Temple Day 5 6 Dedication of Temple Day 6 7 Dedication of Temple Day 7 8 (1 Kings 8:66 "On the eighth day he sent the people away") - (2 Chronicles 7:9 "And on the eighth day they held a sacred assembly") 9 10 (Day of Atonement - no work allowed - Leviticus 23:27-28) 11 [not enough time for 7 days] 12 [not enough time for 7 days] 13 [not enough time for 7 days] 14 [not enough time for 7 days] 15 (Feast of Tabernacles - 7 More days ) Feast of Tabernacles Day 1 16 Feast of Tabernacles Day 2 17 Feast of Tabernacles Day 3 18 Feast of Tabernacles Day 4 19 Feast of Tabernacles Day 5 20 Feast of Tabernacles Day 6 21 Feast of Tabernacles Day 7 22 (This is argued to be 1 Kings 8:66 as the 8th day, but this is the day before the 23rd... so I can't agree with this) 23 (Finished... all went home - 2 Chronicles 7:10)

I edited my previous post to reflect this, but the offerings and rituals that are observed on the day of Atonement are absent from both accounts, See Leviticus 16:1-34

Leviticus 23:27. Require burnt offering. We have Proof that on the 8th day (We don't know what day this actually was) they went home 1 Kings 8:66 We have Proof that on the 23rd day (7 days after the Feast of Tabernacles) they went home 2 Chronicles 7:10
1 (Feast of Trumpets ) 2 (Feast of Trumpets ) 3 4 5 6 7 8 Dedication of Temple Day 1 (1 Kings 8:66 "On the eighth day he sent the people away") - (2 Chronicles 7:9 "And on the eighth day they held a sacred assembly") 9 Dedication of Temple Day 2 10 Dedication of Temple Day 3 (Day of Atonement) - no work allowed - but sacrifice with burnt offering - Leviticus 23:27-28) 11 Dedication of Temple Day 4 12 Dedication of Temple Day 5 13 Dedication of Temple Day 6 14 Dedication of Temple Day 7 15 (Feast of Tabernacles - 7 More days ) Feast of Tabernacles Day 1 16 Feast of Tabernacles Day 2 17 Feast of Tabernacles Day 3 18 Feast of Tabernacles Day 4 19 Feast of Tabernacles Day 5 20 Feast of Tabernacles Day 6 21 Feast of Tabernacles Day 7 22 (This is argued to be 1 Kings 8:66 as the 8th day, but this is the day before the 23rd... still difficult to agree with this) 23 (Finished... all went home - 2 Chronicles 7:10)
